Best Candidates For kybella
Candidates for double chin treatment should be in good overall health. If you’re interested in losing weight, you should be at or near your target weight range before getting treatment for a double chin. Most people get double chin treatment to smooth away excess fat under the chin, achieve better jawline definition and reveal a more youthful looking neck.
Depending on your needs and goals, our medical professionals may recommend additional or alternative treatments. SOFWAVE skin tightening can help resolve sagging skin below the chin that may appear similar to that of a double chin.
What To Expect
Recovery & Results
Your recovery process will depend on the method used to treat your double chin, although neither treatment option requires downtime. After your appointment, you may develop some redness, swelling or bruising around the injection sites. These side effects should fade within one week. After your results develop, you should notice a smoother, better-defined jawline. Any excess fat in the area should be noticeably decreased, and you may even appear younger due to altering this one feature.
FAQs
Kybella is an FDA-approved injectable treatment that destroys fat cells under the chin, improving the appearance of moderate to severe fat below the chin (submental fat), also known as a “double chin.
The active ingredient in Kybella is synthetic deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath the chin, Kybella destroys fat cells, and once destroyed, these cells can no longer store or accumulate fat. This results in a noticeable reduction in fullness under the chin, revealing an improved chin profile.
Your specialist will create a tailored treatment plan based on your chin profile. At each treatment, you will be given multiple small injections under your chin. You may receive up to six treatment sessions, spaced at least one month apart. Many patients experience visible results in two to four Kybella treatments.
During the treatment, your healthcare provider will mark the injection sites and may apply a topical numbing agent or ice pack to ease any discomfort. Kybella is then injected into the marked sites using a fine needle. The procedure typically takes about 15-20 minutes.
After the treatment, you might experience swelling, bruising, pain, redness, and areas of hardness in the treatment area. These side effects are usually temporary and resolve on their own. Most patients can return to their normal activities immediately, but it’s best to avoid strenuous activities for a few days.
Visible results can be seen as early as 4-6 weeks after the first treatment, with optimal results typically seen after multiple treatments.
When injected into fat under the chin, Kybella causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat. After reaching your desired aesthetic, further treatment is not expected.
The most common side effects are swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, redness and areas of hardness around the treatment area.
Before the treatment, avoid taking blood thinners, alcohol, and supplements like fish oil, vitamin E for at least a week to reduce the risk of bruising. Follow any specific instructions given by your healthcare provider.
Kybella is currently only FDA-approved for use in the submental area (under the chin). Its use in other areas of the body is considered off-label and should be discussed with a qualified healthcare provider.
