Candidates for Profound skin tightening treatments should be in good overall health with realistic expectations for their results. Most people who get Profound treatments are men or women experiencing signs of aging such as sagging skin, deep creases and loss of volume around the mouth, cheeks and neck. Profound treatments are sometimes referred to as a “nonsurgical facelift,” and can also be used to contour the neck and jaw area, minimizing jowls or a double chin.
Depending on your needs, our staff may recommend additional treatments to rejuvenate your facial skin and tissue, such as PRP/PRF facial rejuvenation or FRAX skin resurfacing. Men or women interested in getting rid of a double chin may also benefit from our double chin treatment options.
What To Expect
Before your Profound treatment, a topical numbing cream will be applied to your face, followed by an injection of numbing medicine to further minimize discomfort during the procedure. Your healthcare provider will then pass the Profound handpiece over your skin. The handpiece consists of a cartridge containing five pairs of microneedles with electrodes that deliver fractional radiofrequency energy to the skin and tissue. This causes the skin to tighten and tone by activating cell regeneration, collagen and your skin’s natural healing processes.
Recovery & Results
Following your Profound treatment, you can expect to develop some facial redness and swelling which should fade over the next two to five days. You can resume your normal activities 24 hours after treatment, including wearing makeup. You may have slight pinkness or puffiness for a few days after your appointment, but this should fade with time. Some people develop mild temporary bruising as well.
Your results will gradually develop over the following several weeks and months. You should notice your skin becoming firmer, tighter and more toned. You may also notice a decrease in folds or sagging, helping you appear younger and more refreshed.
FAQs
The number of treatments depends on your desired results, but many people are happy with a single Profound treatment. If you have more advanced skin laxity, you may wish to schedule a second treatment after you are finished healing from your first appointment.
Because we apply a topical numbing cream to the skin before using the Profound device and follow up your treatment with a numbing injection, you shouldn’t experience pain during or after the procedure. You may, however, feel a vibrating sensation and some mild discomfort. Ask your professional provider if you’re interested in taking a painkiller before your procedure.
Whether you should have nonsurgical or surgical facial rejuvenation depends on the extent of facial aging you are experiencing and your desired results. However, RF skin tightening treatments can be combined with other types of facial rejuvenation to deliver impressive results without surgery.
Similar to the Profound RF device, microneedling can rejuvenate the skin using small needles to stimulate healing and reveal smoother, younger-looking skin. However, the Profound device emits radiofrequency (RF) energy, allowing for a deeper penetration into the dermis. For this reason, Profound treatments can deliver more dramatic skin tightening results than microneedling treatments. Ask your provider for more information about the difference between the two procedures.
Profound treatments can cause some temporary bruising, swelling and redness, but these side effects should fade within one week of your appointment. With a little makeup, many people can even attend parties and events within a few days without looking as if they’ve had anything done.
